If someone were to give you money, would you take it?

I’m usually very skeptical about all the offers for getting grants I get in my email box. Practically 99.9% of them are scams being run by people who just are out to rob you of your money.

I’m sure you get the same emails and you can smell the hype from a mile away, too.

I gave in a couple of times and tried a few programs and they proved out to be nothing more than glossed-over lies. Just what I expected.

On the other hand, I know people who have received grant money- including myself. So I know the money is out there.

Free Grant Money Available

But on with my story…

I used to work for a non-profit organization years ago and I was was part of the grant writing team. I was very inexperienced and so were most of my colleagues who were on this team. It was a very eye-opening experience because it allowed us to see how much money is actually floating out there waiting to be given.

I met with and talked to a lot of important people who ran these grant programs including people at the Sam Walton Foundation (Walmart), the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Bill Gates Foundation (Microsoft) just to name a few.

I am glad to say we received awards like $178,000 from one foundation and some smaller amounts from other foundations, too. We spent long days and nights writing these grant proposals (being as inexperienced as we were) but we were successful in landing some of these grant awards.

We failed miserably in others. In fact, there was one where we could have received $220,000 but someone on the team messed up and the foundation told us “No.” To say the least, we were very disappointed because we put in some long hours to get that proposal done.

But my entire point is to say there is a lot of money out there (even in this time of recession) that you and I qualify for. All we have to do is “ask.”
